Move-In Day FAQ

Am I able to move all of my belongings into my Residence Hall room for the academic year?

Yes! If you register for Pre-Orientation, this will bump up your August move-in date to August 6th. On the 6th, your supporters can help you move all of your belongings into your assigned room.

Where do I go to check-in for Pre-Orientation?

Check-in for Pre-Orientation will be held in the Highsmith Student Union, which can be located on this campus map.

Where can my parents and I stay if we have to arrive the night before move-in?

UNC Asheville has several business partners throughout the Asheville community that offer discounts to Friends and Family of UNC Asheville. Please visit the UNC Asheville Preferred Accommodations website for a list of hotels.

Can I move my belongings in early even if I am not staying on campus?

Saturday August 6th 2022 is the earliest that any Pre-Orientation participant will be able to move on campus. Only students who have an on-campus housing assignment will be able to stay in the residence halls during Pre-Orientation. Students who will not be living on-campus during the academic year are still welcome to participate in the program, but will be responsible for coordinating their transportation to and from campus every day during the program.

How long will check-in take and what do I need to bring with me?

Check-in will take place from 8 a.m – 11 a.m. Plan on allotting approximately 30 minutes for completing the check-in process.

You will need to bring any incomplete required forms and your OneCard or government-issued identification with you to check-in.

If you have not yet paid your registration fee, you must bring cash or check payable to UNC Asheville.

Do you provide breakfast on move-in day?

Because of the varied arrival times of participants, we do not provide breakfast or lunch on move-in day. When you arrive at your program meeting place at 1 p.m. you should have already eaten lunch. Urban programs will not have dinner until 6 p.m. that evening, so be sure to pack snacks if needed.

Where will I be staying during Pre-Orientation? Will I be allowed to move into the residence hall room that I’m assigned to for the academic year when I check-in for Pre-Orientation?

All Pre-Orientation students who have an on-campus housing assignment for the academic year will move all their belongings into the residence hall room they have been assigned. For a list of items to bring and not to bring, please see Residence Life’s packing list.

The only programs that will not stay overnight on campus during Pre-Orientation are Wilderness Experience and Blue Ridge Experience. Wilderness Experience will start and end at basecamp and backpack mid-week. Blue Ridge Experience will be in a cabins at basecamp all week.

I just want to move into my residence hall early. Can I sign up for Pre-Orientation and just not participate?

No. By registering for Pre-Orientation, you commit to participating in all activities in your chosen program. Participation in activities is required and if you choose to not participate, you will be asked to leave campus until regular move-in day.
