First Generation Celebration Day

We will be holding a First Generation Celebration Day every academic year. Follow us on Instagram to stay up-to-date with First Generation events.

2023-2024

This, year Fist Generation College Student Celebration Day will be held on November 8th, 2023! FGCC is celebrated annually on November 8 to commemorate the signing of the Higher Education Act (“HEA”) of 1965 by then-President Lyndon B. Johnson. This act created federal financial aid programs to fund students’ educations and made key investments in colleges and universities. Many of the HEA’s programs, particularly the Federal TRIO programs, promote postsecondary access, retention, and completion for today’s limited-income, first-generation college students.

Join us in Highsmith Student Union Grotto from 11am-2pm for a fair full of campus partners, exciting activities, amazing prizes, and good food!

2022-2023

2021-2022

Our 1st annual First Generation Celebration Day was March 17th, 2022. We kicked-off the day with a scavenger hunt across campus through our Instagram @uncaembark. We gave away tickets for free coffee and other goodies. Our main event of the day was a panel and free lunch with First Generation Staff and Faculty members. We also spent the day highlighting First Generation stories on our Instagram page and giving away more prizes.
