Veterans Healing Farm
The Veterans Healing Farm helps empower veterans reintegrating into civilian life by growing produce, raising farm animals, and conducting seminars about holistic health and sustainability. They also foster a thriving micro-community (called a PermatribeTM) of veterans and civilians who build deep friendships, implement innovative gardening techniques
Membership Includes the Following:
- A large quantity of nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables from May through November.
- Community events throughout the summer, such as potlucks, concerts and camping.
- Hands-on demonstrations and workshops about sustainable farming and permaculture.
- Full access to all Veterans Healing Farm facilities, programs, functions and services.

Higher Ground Hikers
If you enjoy hiking, check out Higher Ground Hikers! Although they’re based in Upstate SC, the Upstate Warrior Solutions (UWS) program in support of Veteran Spouses & Caregivers – and the hikes they schedule are located within a reasonable drive from Asheville.
Higher Ground Hikers provide a free series of monthly hikes to military spouses and caregivers, giving them a chance to connect with each other and step away from normal routines, while venturing out in nature in some of the area’s most breathtaking and serene settings.

Equine Therapy and Learning
Enjoy a relaxing day at this beautiful 110 acre ranch just outside of Asheville. Horse Sense of the Carolinas offers sessions for individuals, families, and couples to spend a day with animals for healing and personal growth. They also offer Equine Assisted Therapy sessions and opportunities to volunteer.
North Carolina Statewide Independent Living Council (NCSILC)
The North Carolina’s Governor’s Council on independent living is a federally-mandated, not-for-profit, Governor appointed council. The NCSIC is looking for a veteran student at UNC Asheville to join its efforts in developing a state plan to address provisions of living services, supporting a statewide network of Centers for Independent Living, and assist in the implementation of the state plan. If you are a veteran or know a veteran who could aide in this process, please visit NCSILC for more information.

Operation GoodJobs Info Sessions for Veterans
Through Operation: GoodJobs, veterans and their immediate family members can get free assistance with career assessment, planning and coaching, job skills training, job placement, career readiness certification and more. Weekly information sessions held in Buncombe, Caldwell, Catawba, Davidson, Forsyth, Iredell, Rowan, Surry and Wilkes Counties.
Peace Education Program
The Peace Education Program is a 10-week course (which meets one day every week) is for Veterans and facilitated by Veterans. This program is designed to help participants discover their own inner resources, such as inner strength, choice and hope – for the purpose of helping them realize and develop their innate abilities for living and possibly finding personal peace.
Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing
Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and diabled veterans through fly fishing and associated activities including education and outings. Team River Run
Team River Run (TRR) is a non-profit organization that provides innovative paddling programs designed to assist with the recovery of those injured while serving our country. TRR has an Asheville chapter that holds roll sessions, pot lucks, and river trips.
